THE NEED
It all started when I became on my own again after 23 years of marriage, I became frustrated that I had no one around to help put lotion on my back when I went outside to work or to sunbathe. It was also a struggle to put moisturizer on my back after showering or bathing.
THE SEARCH
I tried everything. There was nothing on the market That could do what I wanted it to do. Any of the wands or brushes available were made of materials that did not allow for the smooth application. It was always a messy cleanup and they were awkward to take with you if you traveled. For 12 years, I continue to search and to experiment with ideas that came to me.
THE IDEA
In 2009, in one of my frustrated moments, a light bulb went on. I immediately went out shopping and picked up the items I needed and started sewing. I tested it out and was thrilled with the results. I’ve always been a creative thinker and problem-solver, so it was extremely satisfying to know that I came up with a solution for my 12-year puzzlement.
THE PATENT
I soon realized that this was something worth sharing, but I knew the simplicity of the design needed to be protected. I sought legal advice which led to me going through the patent process. My application for U.S.patent started in October 2010 and was not granted until April 2013. The Canadian patent has now been approved.
THE MANUFACTURING
It was never my plan to manufacture my back lotion applicator. I wanted to sell my patent to a company with distribution in place so that it could be sold in the largest possible market. I soon realized that I would have to manufacture a smaller quantity in order to get consumer reaction to it. I had a batch of them manufactured in Canada which proved to be a little more expensive, but, the quality was excellent. Then I created a video to capture what I deemed to be the real value of the applicator.
THE SHARING
I called it BackSlide Lotion Applicator but currently it is being marketed as E Z ON Back Lotion Applicator, and it was introduced in late November 2017 to a test group. They gave strong positive feedback. It is, absolutely, the best solution for people who want to apply moisturizers, bath gel, sunscreen, tanning lotion, or medications to their backs. It is durable, effective, easy to clean, store and carry with you. It is lightweight for travel and completely covers your back with an even application of lotion. You could actually use it every day without doing more than wiping with soap and water to keep it fresh and clean.
If you have mobility issues, you will be able to use it easily. In fact, I developed my patented design at a time when I was having health challenges and it was a perfect solution for me.
