IMPORTANT! AUGUST 29TH COUNCIL MEETING 4:00 PM

We need you to attend the next council meeting and come early!

I trust that everyone has heard or seen what happened in council last night. It was a very sad day for our town. IMPACT Wasaga Beach Club was not well represented at the meeting, not that it would have made a difference given the events. We must be a visible positive influence in our community and at council meetings.
Last night’s events were well planned, this was grandstanding by councillor Bray, she could have just said that she did not intend her comments at a previous meeting to be offensive and if they did offend someone then I apologize. I was in attendance at that meeting and I assure you her comments were intended to be and were offensive. Yes, Bill Stockwell could have said nothing and then what next?
Not sure when the tape started rolling but there was a lot of activity prior the meeting starting with Sylvia, Mark Winegarden and DM meeting with members of the audience, look closely and you will see that the events that unfolded were well planned.
Our town has been high jacked by a small group with an agenda to discredit the mayor and certain members of council and their behaviour is getting progressively bold and inappropriate. How would you like it if during a meeting you were called an asshole and worse and I am not referring to last nights meetings. You all know the ring leaders as they are very active on Facebook and at meetings. They specialize in fake news. They intimidate anyone that has a different opinion and we have witnesses and names of members of this group that said very inappropriate things to people as they left a council meeting only because they had made a positive comment.
if we do not let these bullies know that we do not approve of their behaviour or that we do not share their views there tactics will continue. They will try to convince everyone that the Master Plan, the development of a Main Street and the redevelopment of our beach front will raise your property taxes by 2, 3, 4, or even 10 times. They will tell you the focus is on tourists and not our citizens. They will tell you that the mayor, certain councillors, committee members and some staff stand to get financial benefit and are involved in shady deals and it will all be fake news.
Here is a letter I was going to send to the paper and it outlines why moving our town forward is so important.
Wasaga Beach Master Plan

The world is changing and with change comes uncertainty, many questions & opinions and even fear. No matter what happens we either manage the change or let the change manage us.

The migration of new residents into South Georgian Bay is inevitable and it is a huge opportunity for our entire town. The master Plan is not just about revitalizing our only major industry tourism and it is not just about benefiting the main east end.

We have many significant challenges facing our community and the Mater Plan offers benefits and advantages related to most;

We have many in our community that are looking forward to the next stage of their lives and maintaining a single detached property and home is not part of the plan. They are financially stable, want to contribute to their community through their experience and volunteerism. They are still active and want to have a vibrant walkable life style. Wasaga Beach is currently 800 units behind the current demand for apartments & condos and the Master Plan addresses this requirement in a big way. Without appropriate housing many contributing residents will be forced to leave our community and we will not be able to keep and attract our seniors, young people and families.

Speaking about young people and families the Master Plan provides benefits for them as well. The development will create new better paying jobs and many small entrepreneurial business opportunities. It will provide appropriate housing for those that are not yet in a position to purchase their own home. The projected growth for our community will result in a new high school, which is an important consideration when families decide where they want to live. The resulting growth will increase development and improve business across the entire town.

Who needs increased commercial? Well likely a town that is currently 97% reliant on property tax to operate our town. Likely a town where 50% of disposable income flows out of our town and benefits other communities other than our own. Just think of all of the goods and services you need to leave town for today, and be honest when you are visiting more complete communities for your needs you often make purchases that could have been made in your own home town. When is the last time you purchased furniture, a new or used car, gone to the cinema, theatre or bowling alley, bought shoes, a dress or visited a walk in clinic in Wasaga Beach?

The Master Plan is a better future for Wasaga Beach and just getting started is attracting attention, new development and new residents. We will become a more economically viable complete community with great things to do and places to see all year round. Young families and seniors will enjoy both a world class tourist destination and a world class place to live!

We will have a new arena, new library, new cultural centre and much, much more and the great news is that the vast majority of the cost to create it will be funded through developers and multiple levels of government. Most of the municipal costs will be covered through tax incentives and development charge rebates and keep in mind these are taxes that we do not currently collect any way.

Do not fear the future, help us create it!
