BUSINESS PARTICIPATION NEEDED AT COUNCIL TOMORROW NIGHT (MARCH 26, 7 PM)

Hello All:
This is a reminder that Regular Council Meeting will be held on March 26, 2019 in the Council Chambers.  There is an opportunity to ask questions and an opportunity to make a statement during the Council Meeting. at 7:00 PM

The agenda for the meeting may be found at:
https://www.wasagabeach.com/Shared%20Documents/2019-03-26%20Regular%20Council%20-%20Agenda.pdf
We encourage businesses to attend the meeting and to ask questions or to make statements about those things on the Agenda that are affecting business in Wasaga Beach.

Please note that a couple of the items on agenda include a Notice of Motion by Joe Belanger on the need for an Economic Impact Study in connection with the placement of the casino on highway 26 and what effect it will have on the local business climate and a Notice of Motion by Joe Belanger on the Comprehensive Master Plan update.  In addition, one of our members Xan will be speaking on the effect that closing down the Main Street Market is going to have on small business and tourism.

Please support these initiatives by speaking up at
council.

For those of you who were unable to attend the last Wasaga Business Association meeting held March 20, 2019 please note the following:

-In order for the Wasaga Business Association to be successful, it will take all members participating both in the meetings and in the initiatives that are being worked on by the Association.  We need your input and direction.

The Association is looking for members that can take an active role on the board and others who can help out in a clerical capacity.  Please contact one of the
executives to let us know how you can help.
The Association has a number of expenses coming up and we need donations towards the incorporation (we have an “associate member” that has agreed to help us with filing the necessary paperwork).  We also need donations towards a Facebook Ad Campaign that we will be putting together. Again – please contact one of the executives.

NEW INITIATIVE TO COMBAT MISINFORMATION ON FACEBOOK:  We have a new-to-us Facebook page call
WASAGA BEACH ONLINE CAFE where we currently have over 1600 people in the group.  The goal is to grow this group on Facebook as a safe place to have discussions regarding events and politics in Wasaga Beach, with a longer-term goal to be reaching a good portion of the voting population of Wasaga Beach by early next year.  It will be a place where people can go for accurate information instead of the false information currently being spread on some of the other Facebook pages.  Please join the page and ask any of your friends who live, work or who have a vested interest in Wasaga Beach to join the page.

NEW INITIATIVE (closing date April 23, 2019) The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is currently soliciting information from residents on Ontario on a possible change to the structure of Municipal Government.

MINISTER STEVE CLARK: “Our government is committed to improving the way regional government works. After almost 50 years, it’s time to consider whether changes are needed in communities where populations have grown, and hard-earned taxpayers’ dollars are being stretched.

This consultation is an opportunity for us to hear directly from you? the people who live, work and spend time in the municipalities covered by the review. We want to hear your ideas on how we can improve governance, decision-making and service delivery in the regions and Simcoe County.

The outcomes of the review are not predetermined. It is about making sure regional and municipal governments are accountable to the people and working hard to deliver services to their communities. By building on what’s working well, we can improve regional government and make it easier to access local services. Only after we have thoroughly considered the advisors’ recommendations will we determine how to proceed.

I look forward to hearing from residents, businesses and our municipal partners on what can be improved.”

There is an opportunity to write to the government and/or to answer their survey.  The information on who to write to and how to complete the survey can be found at this link:

Please note that our various letter writing campaigns continue.

Things you can do to help:
Letters/emails to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councilors of Wasaga Beach (address each one separately so they are required to answer separately) expressing your concerns with the current direction of council. Please be specific about your concern and email about each individual concern separately. Among the concerns is that the voices of the residents and businesses of Wasaga Beach are not being heard.
  1. Letter to the Premier – talking about the efforts of this council to divert attention from the current businesses and the jewel of Ontario (the beach) and how it is affecting local business.  https://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca/EN/feedback/default.aspx

  1. Letter to the Ministry of Tourism talking about the $350,000 plan for the downtown and the Main beach that has been thrown out while this council concentrates on a new development node.  Talk about how tourism is just an aside in Wasaga Beach rather than the #1 industry in Wasaga Beach and in the world. https://www.ontario.ca/page/ministry-tourism-culture-and-sport

  1. Letters to those overseeing the Regional Government Review https://www.ontario.ca/page/consultation-regional-government-review?fbclid=IwAR2w-ITbbOB0ZFO9wbCVP6co0dD5c1nf0HOTHurtR5jI1QeWtfN7Rs4YZO8

  1. Letters to the Executive Team at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming  https://about.olg.ca/executive-team/

  1. Gateway Casino to tell them the casino needs to be located in our town so that it benefits local businesses https://www.gatewaycasinos.com/contact/
